Can you inspire communities to engage with their cultural heritage? Hull Museums are looking for an aspiring Community Curator to connect Ferens Art Gallery’s collection to local communities in Hull and East Riding. You will work with the team to create programming at the Ferens and in the wider community that explores narratives not explored before within the walls of the gallery.

Working with the Curator of Art, curatorial colleagues, and other departments, particularly Learning, Marketing and Front of House, you will build connections between Ferens’ nationally significant collection, a burgeoning local artistic community and a range of audiences. We are looking for a good communicator, who is able to listen to communities and not afraid to think outside of traditional museum practices to create meaningful programming.

Funded as part of the Humber Museums Consortium National Portfolio Organisation, you will have familiarity with Arts Council England’s Let’s Create strategy. You will also have a good grounding in art history, with an interest beyond the traditional canon of western art.

Experience of working with communities is key. You will work with existing partners, but also forge new sustainable relationships. An understanding of working within an Accredited Museum and keeping on top of documentation, responding to enquiries and administrating loans, where necessary, is also required.

This post is funded through Arts Council England NPO funding until 31st March 2023
