Hull Maritime Museum

Reopening 2025.

Opened in 1871 as Hull’s Dock Offices, this iconic building has seen many ships sail past its windows. We’ve also welcomed many people through the doors since opening as a museum in 1975.

Now, an ambitious restoration project will breathe new life into the museum. Reopening in 2025, expect an exciting array of exhibits, from ship models to maritime art to a 40-foot whale skeleton!

The museum highlights Hull’s role as a modern maritime city. And explores the history of merchant shipping, fishing and whaling 
in the region and beyond.

In 2017, Hull Maritime Museum welcomed a record number of visitors during Hull City of Culture. Now, the newly restored museum will reaffirm our position at the centre of a worldwide story. And inspire future generations around our rich heritage and modern industry.

The restoration will highlight the quality of the original architecture while modernising the museum and opening up more of our collections to the public.
