Hull Arena - News & Updates

Hull Ice Arena News & Updates

Regular Visitors to the Arena may be aware that aspects of the building and plant room machinery have been requiring significant maintenance due to the age of the building. The lockdown period has also lead to the review of such plans for much needed essential maintenance with closure during lockdown leading to further deterioration of the building and plant room equipment. This has meant that the Arena has been unable to re-open.

Essential repairs are now required to replace the air handling units and refrigeration system for the ice pad ventilation, adjust air ventilation systems and general internal improvements to enable the facility to re-open and address Covid 19 health and safety building compliance. This is work over and above the previous maintenance programme. The provisional estimate for the required works requires an investment of c.£1.1m

Hull City Council's democratic approvals process has now been completed with the £1.1m investment receiving approval from the Council Scrutiny Committee and by Cabinet. This means that procurement works can commence. The work is expected to take approximitely nine months, with an anticipated public reopening in August 2021.

Recognising the importance of the Arena in Hull, the Council’s Portfolio Holder for Leisure & Culture has publically stated the Councils intention that the Ice Arena should be funded so that it is fit for purpose over the next 5 years.

On behalf of the Company and the Council we want to apologise for the inconvenience these essential works are causing, and thank you for your patience. We are offering all our regular Arena customers, including club members a 20% discount on our Leisure Centre ‘Live It’ Membership for the duration of the closure. We look forward to next summer when we can reopen the Arena and welcome back our customers.
