LEARN TO SWIM WITH HULL CULTURE & LEISURE

If you would like to learn to swim or gain more confidence in the water, we offer a range of swimming lessons for adults and children. More advanced classes are also available through our swimming clubs.

SWIMMING LESSON COVID-19 INFORMATION

Hull Culture and Leisure Ltd are currently in the process of resuming swimming lessons across our pools facilities. Detailed information can be found below for each site which is resuming swimming lessons and we urge participants, parents and guardians to be aware of the guidance.

All visitors to our leisure facilities should also ensure they have read our Leisure Facilities COVID Safe Guidance prior to visiting which explains in more detail the changes people will see on site. This guidance can be found here.

ENNERDALE LEISURE CENTRE SWIMMING LESSON COVID-19 GUIDANCE

  • Only one parent/guardian can enter the facility to accompany the child attending swimming lessons.
  • Seating is available for one parent or guardian on the balcony viewing area with a limited number of seats overlooking the small pool.  Please leave the viewing area at the end of the lesson and wait outside the main entrance for your child so the seating area can be disinfected for the next group.
  • Swimmers should arrive ‘Pool Ready’ wearing swimwear under outer clothing.
  • Please ensure your child has used the toilet prior to attending the facility.  Should they need to use the toilet on arrival at the facility the toilets next to the reception should be used.
  • Arrival time is strictly FIVE MINUTES prior to the start of the lesson.
  • On arrival please follow the social distancing signs to the reception desk and then onto the balcony viewing area.
  • Each swimmer should bring a bag which will fit all belongings in with their name clearly marked on the bag.  The teacher will ask pupils to come to the poolside with their bags via the balcony and will be allocated a space on the poolside where they can remove their outer clothing and put it into their bag.  Bags will stay on the poolside for the duration of the lesson.  Outdoor shoes must be removed before entering the poolside.
  • Swimmers must not remove outer clothing in the viewing area.
  • At the end of the lesson pupils will collect their belongings and walk to the changing rooms.  We advise that pupils aged eight years and over should change on their own and parents of pupils under eight years may meet them in the changing room should they require assistance changing. 
  • Showers should be used only to rinse off pool water.
  • Changing should be quick to allow for the changing areas to be disinfected for the next group.
  • Changing room toilets can be used by pupils during the lesson if needed.
  • Direction signage is posted throughout the building to ensure customers keep a safe distance. 
  • Hand sanitiser is available throughout the building.

 

ALBERT AVENUE POOLS SWIMMING LESSON COVID-19 GUIDANCE

  • Only child can enter the facility to attend swimming lessons unless parent/carer authorised. Unfortunately strictly no spectators allowed.
  • Swimmers should arrive ‘Pool Ready’ wearing swimwear under outdoor clothing.
  • Ensure your child has used the toilet prior to attending the facility. 
  • Arrival time is strictly FIVE MINUTES prior to the start of the lesson.
  • On arrival everyone should follow the Social distancing signs to the reception desk and throughout the building.
  • Each swimmer should bring a bag which will fit all essential belongings in and their name clearly marked.
  • We advise that pupils aged eight years and over are able to change on their own and parents of pupils under eight years may meet them in the changing room should they require assistance changing when authorised to do so.
  • Showers should be used only to rinse off pool water – no use of products allowed.
  • Changing should be quick to allow for the changing areas to be disinfected for the next group.
  • Changing room toilets can be used by pupils during the lesson if needed.
  • Direction signage is posted throughout the building to ensure customers keep a safe distance. 
  • Hand sanitiser is available throughout the building.

 

TYPES OF SWIMMING LESSONS AVAILABLE WITH HULL CULTURE AND LEISURE

CHILDREN'S LESSONS

Parent and child classes

If you have children aged from six to 36 months these classes is a great way of introducing them to water. Run by qualified teachers, you and your child will learn how to enjoy the water safely. These lessons run in line with the school terms.

Ducklings

If you have children aged three or four, these lessons will help them to gain the confidence to move freely on their own in water.

Stages 1 to 7 and personal survival bronze, silver and gold challenge awards

Delivering the Amateur Swimming Associations national learn to swim scheme for children aged three to 15 years old, these classes help children progress from beginner to advanced swimmer level. Each level has stroke, skill and distance requirements.

Lessons are delivered on a rolling programme over 44 weeks per year at Albert Avenue Pools, Beverley Road Baths, Ennerdale Leisure Centre and Woodford Leisure Centre.

ADULT LESSONS

Adult swimming lessons are available to anyone 16 years old or over during term time. If you are a beginner, you will learn to be more confident in the water. If you are a more advanced swimmer, you will benefit from technique and stroke work.
